Defender® Fixing Silicone Adhesive - Key Info:
Why do I need a specialist bird spike adhesive?
Defender® Fixing Silicone Adhesive is a specially formulated glue designed to use with Defender® Bird Spikes. The fixing silicone reacts with the polycarbonate bases of the Defender® Bird Spike range to create a tough, strong bond. Once the spike adhesive has cured, it will hold the bird spikes in place for years to come, keeping pigeons and birds away from homes and properties. This spike adhesive can be used on most clean, dry surfaces such as wood, glass, steel, concrete and brick. How to prepare Defender® Spike Adhesive for bird spike installation
Step 1 - Getting the Silicone Tube Ready: The only specialist tool needed to use the 285 ml tube of Defender® Fixing Silicone is a caulking gun. Using a Stanley knife, carefully cut open the tip of the fixing silicone tube, do not cut flush as you need the thread to attach the nozzle. You can widen the opening of the application nozzle by cutting further down the length. This will make the bead of silicone slightly thicker. Once complete screw the application nozzle tightly onto the threaded tip.
Step 2 – Loading the Defender® Fixing Silicone into the caulking gun: Place one hand on the trigger and the other on the metal rod coming out of the back of the gun. Using your trigger hand push your thumb onto the metal release pad and firmly pull the rod back as far as it will go. Place the application nozzle through the circular hole at the front of the gun and secure it in place by pushing the rod inside the bottom of the tube. Give the trigger a few squeezes until you start to feel some resistance.
Step 3 – Time to get installing: Once ready, squeeze the trigger until the silicone pushes through the nozzle. Apply it along the full length of the base of the Defender® Bird Deterrent Spike and then press the spike onto the clean, dry ledge or window sill that needs bird proofing. You can purchase a
caulking gun here, that can be used with the silicone we provide.
Long Life Expectancy
As Defender® Fixing Silicone is used predominantly outside that are exposed to the elements, so it is good to know that this spike adhesive works perfectly in temperatures ranging from -60 °C to 180 °C and is also formulated to be corrosion free. The Defender® Fixing Silicone has a life expectancy of 35 years.
High Quality Defender® Fixing Silicone
Defender® Fixing Silicone Adhesive Glue has been specifically designed to work in conjunction with Durolon, the UV Stabilised Polycarbonate plastic used in the manufacture of the bases of the Defender® Bird and Pigeon Control Spike range. When applied directly to the plastic bird spike base and pressed onto the dry, clean surface, the silicone ensures a permanent fix. Some lesser quality fixing silicones may not stick adequately to the base of our pigeon deterrent spikes. This means they may peel off the surfaces they are designed to protect. Our Defender® Fixing Silicone is used by most pest control companies and councils throughout the UK.
